It may look pixelated, but it also looks sharper, and seems much clearer than the "rubbed with Vaseline" look that TG16 games get.Ĭapcom Classics Collection Volume 2 isn't as bad as TG16 though, and the filter seems to work in its favor in this case. I really don't have a good way of describing this, but if you look at a Turbo-Grafx game on the Wii in 480p and then look at a Genesis, NES, or SNES title, I much prefer to pixel "retention" AKA lack of filtering that those consoles adhere to. Well, often I don't like when things are filtered because you lose out on detail and there's a sort of bland quality to that smoothed out look.
It's not like we're losing, or gaining, any quality to the graphics. The way I see it, antialiased old arcade graphics don't look any better or worse than blocky, pixelated old arcade graphics.
